You can help

Already more than 775,000 people across Wales have joined the Organ Donor Register – each and everyone of them sending a message of hope and support to those that need a transplant.

Sadly though not enough of us are talking about our donation wishes with our family and friends and acting on our good intentions by joining the register. If more of us did then more lives could be saved.

So if you want to help what should you do?

Tell a loved one. The biggest hurdle to more lives being saved is that four out of ten families refuse for their loved ones’ organs to be donated, often because they didn’t know what their wishes were. Making your wishes known means your loved ones won’t have to make the decision for you at a difficult time, and could lead to more lives being saved.

Join the Organ Donor Register. Once you’ve made your decision and told your loved ones it only takes a few minutes to pledge the gift of live. Even if you carry a donor card, you should still join the register as this is the most secure way of making a lasting record of your wishes.

Get involved and spread the word. Once you’ve signed up and told your loved ones, talk about the Donate Wales Campaign with your family and friends. By spreading the word you can help save even more lives.

Why tell a loved one?

In Wales, like the rest of the UK, most organ donations come from heartbeating donors.
